Behind the Scenes: All Access with Manny Pacquiao

Join me in welcoming Patrick Straub to our first Mantis Discussion of the year. Patrick and I are currently working for Showtime on their All Access Documentary Series “Pacquiao vs. Broner”. On an All Access style gig, we have full access to the fighter we are following. Our camp is following Manny Pacquiao leading up to his fight with Adrien Broner on January 19th, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I am recording sound for this all-access gig.

Dive look into our first Mantis Discussion of the year, featuring special guest Patrick Straub. Currently, both Patrick and I are working on Showtime’s All Access Documentary Series “Pacquiao vs. Broner”, offering a unique perspective into the life of Manny Pacquiao as he prepares for his fight against Adrien Broner on January 19th, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. My role? Capturing the sounds that bring this series to life.

Working with Professional Fighters

All Access gigs like this require a composed and professional demeanor. We’re surrounded by the best of the best, industry veterans who demand punctuality and preparedness. Time is precious, and sometimes we’ll wait for 5-6 hours to film for just 10-15 minutes. But that patience pays off when we’re granted complete access to the fighters’ homes, capturing their intimate Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In our podcast, Patrick and I delve into the intricacies of these high-stakes jobs, discussing how information flows from the producers to the crew, and the importance of always being ready. You’ll also find insights into how to secure these coveted gigs, with reference to a previous Mantis Discussion featuring Blas Kisic.

Success in these projects hinges on meticulous attention to detail. With no room for error, it’s crucial to double-check settings and ensure everything is perfect before the cameras start rolling. This isn’t your average run-and-gun shoot with multiple takes – it’s about capturing the moment flawlessly or making instant adjustments.

Tune in to our Mantis Discussion for an in-depth look at the exciting world of All Access documentary filmmaking, and discover the secrets behind capturing the real-life stories of elite athletes like Manny Pacquiao.
