A well explained course that is great for novices and experts. There are tons of small details that really add up and can make a huge difference in getting professional sound from lavs. The walk through and explanations were clear. Audience participation shed light on working with other departments to make everyone happy on whatever set/environment you may be in! Strongly recommend, film school never taught me these important notes!

I am taking this course both as an industry vet that knows he will never stop learning, and as an opportunity to scope out educational material for my up-and-comers. First off, I’ve definitely learned a few new things myself! I had no idea about the lav rod!
Thomas uses relatable real-world examples of what the set environment is like for a location sound person, which really helps paint the picture of what to expect when you hit the job site. Highly recommend this course as the intro for any video-media sound person!

I loved this course! It is jam-packed with valuable knowledge, experience, and expendables. Thomas is such a great person to learn from. I’ve watch the course three times and still pick up new ideas and techniques. I am so glad that I can watch the classes over and over because I’m always able to pick up something I didn’t know or totally forgot about. Constantly learning in addition to reviewing and refreshing skills and techniques is very important throughout a career. I wish I would have known about this resource when I did my first couple of shoots that required lav mics to be hidden on talent. I would have felt much more confident and the overall results would have come out much improved. Grab some popcorn, a beverage, and be ready to take some notes!

I had a great time learning from this class. I come from a film school where most of what I knew before this class was self taught trial and error using moleskin, transpore, and nexcare tapes. It was both affirming and eye opening to me to see the way Thomas used both the tapes I had been using but also the new tools and techniques he used. A lot of his techniques in this class answered questions I had not realized that I had. I would strongly recommend this class to anyone who wants to put a mic on talent. But I would especially recommend it to film students who want to learn more about sound and struggle to find the resources to go into this much detail at their school.

Lots of good tips and techniques for audio people at every level. It’s always interesting to see how another professional handles wiring talent. We may use the same or similar gear, but our techniques maybe different. Sometimes a slight change in technique can make a big difference.

I really enjoyed watching this course. It’s very detailed and even if I’m practicing since several years I’ve learned a lot buy listening Thomas. That also confirms that I was already right on some points. It’s just a pitty filming is not as great as the speech. The camera is not showing the right angle too many times. That kinda frustrating when Thomas show something on the screen and you can’t see it. The same with some tools he shows but are filmed in wide angle. Anyway, that doesn’t spoil the masterclass too much and thanks Thomas for sharing so many great techniques. You’re an amazing speaker. Respect!

I loved this class! I’ve been doing sound for almost ten years and still took down quite a few notes. You’re never done learning! I loved what he had to say about being proactive vs reactive. Tom goes over technical workflow, micing techniques, general advice on etiquette and much more. Everyone needs this course to stay sharp and on top of their game.
